Hybrid Drives? Solid State? Whats it all mean?

With the lowering costs of memory the idea behind replacing the current Platter based data storage in harddrives with the much faster solid-state memory is slowly becoming a reality.

While still being a lot more expensive and aways away from becoming a mainstream component in computers, they are now starting to show up in certian specialized laptops and other gadgets.
